Aims
Springfield Farm needed to accurately count and report to the council the numbers of HGVs which were entering and leaving their site specifically.
This is to help with air quality monitoring and to analyse efforts to keep the dust down.
The quarry’s site occupies an area of 250 acres and, as well as sand and gravel extraction, is home to other operations. It was the winner of the “Quarry of the Year award” in 2018.

- To measure the site traffic they are now using our R-Com IoT VT vehicle counting system
- Our systems are mounted on two 10m tall poles, one pointing at the entry and one to the weighbridge. These connect to our counting units
- Vehicle counts are then categorised in order to identify the specific HGV movements, this data is available in real time and reports are generated automatically and all data is available for historical data sets in our Cloud Based Platform
- Springfield Farm Quarry have been able to 100% automate their counting requirements, and increased their reporting accuracy by categorising vehicles and only reporting on the required HGV activity.
In order to fulfil our reporting requirements we had to look at ways to automate and improve the accuracy in the way we were reporting vehicle movements in and out of our location, in particular identifying the true numbers of HGV’s accessing the quarry and its various facilities.
We engaged the market and through thorough analysis decided to work exclusively with R-Com Technical due to their understanding of our requirements, the flexibility of their solutions and the ability to design and deploy a tailor made robust system into our environment.
Our monitoring, classification of vehicles and reporting is now 100% automated and highly accurate.
