Brecon Beacons National Car Park

Our vehicle counting system helps this National Park tackle the issue of overcrowded car parks and roadside parking. With real-time monitoring and cloud-based reporting, park authorities can proactively manage congestion and protect the environment by deploying rangers to problematic areas swiftly.

Location – Coach Road, Coalbrookdale, Telford, TF8 7DQ

Aims

The National Park serves as a custodians of the countryside, preserving the natural beauty and ecosystems for future generations. However, remote car parking within the park often presents significant challenges, with many car parks reaching capacity by mid-morning. As a result, visitors arriving later in the day frequently resort to parking on nearby verges or in front of gateways.

This not only obstructs access for emergency vehicles but also causes considerable damage to the park’s delicate vegetation and habitats. To address these concerns, the National Park authorities sought a solution that would allow them to accurately monitor the number of vehicles parking along roadsides. This information would enable them to take timely action by deploying rangers to alleviate congestion and prevent further environmental harm.

Solutions

Benefits

Our vehicle and parking management system utilises overhead cameras linked to intelligent counting units that detect and record the number of parked vehicles. Every five minutes, the system transmits real-time reports via LoRaWAN, providing detailed data on roadside parking and car park occupancy. This information is shared with the Park Authorities, enabling them to efficiently deploy rangers, manage congestion, and take proactive measures to ensure smooth traffic flow.
